Volunteer Opportunities
The help we receive from volunteers is the lifeblood of our Outdoor Ministry Program. We need help facilitating the outdoor ministry program and help maintaining the campus grounds and buildings. Here’s how you can get involved with this Christian Summer Camp:
Spring and Fall Work Weekends
Every Spring we gather to open the camp up for the summer and every October during Columbus Day weekend, we gather to prepare the camp for the winter. These weekends are opportunities to meet other camp supporters and physically work on the camp that you love so much. Work Weekends are open to persons of every age and skill level. Free food and lodging are given in exchange for labor. Typical projects range from painting, cleaning, and organizing, to working in flower beds, repairing plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and landscape maintenance. This is a great way to gain volunteer hours and see your Craig Springs friends each spring and fall. Registration forms are available one month prior to the event at CraigSprings.com.
Facility Volunteer Opportunities during times other than Work Weekends
Volunteers are welcome at Craig Springs from April through October. Food is provided to volunteer workers during the summer camping sessions and to groups of 40 persons or more. Cabins with kitchens are available for those needing to provide their own meals. Come for an afternoon, a few days, or a week. To volunteer at this Christian summer camp, please contact the camp manager.
Counseling & Camp Staff Opportunities
Counseling youth is a life-changing and rewarding volunteer opportunity. This experience provides a chance to help children grow and understand their Christian faith in a safe place. Counselors will be responsible for abiding by camp behavior covenant rules and leading a short small-group discussion with materials provided by coordinator or directors.
Counselors at Craig Springs will be involved in all activities, making sure campers are excited to be at camp, staying with campers and making sure they are safe, and sharing spiritual knowledge with their campers.
Counselor Qualifications
- Must be at least 4 years older than the oldest camper
- Those under the 4 year age limit can be involved in a counselor-in-training program
- Must hold a strong understanding of their faith
- Must have emotional and spiritual maturity
- Required to read and understand our Regional Sexual Misconduct Policy and Regional Child Protection Policy
- Must take an online course to certify them as a mandated suspected child abuse reporter in the Commonwealth of Virginia (free)
- Have to pass a criminal background check
- Must obtain two good references
We also need weekly volunteers to lead music, crafts, and game activities, as well as medical personnel (camp nurse), keynote speakers, and performing artists.
